ZAHID ACCUSED KU LI

KUALA LUMPUR, SUN:
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Zahid Hamidi accused Umno veteran Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah of taking advantage of the party’s hard-pressed situation by calling for an extraordinary general meeting.

Zahid, however, said the party should hold a convention for divisional representatives to meet and air their differences regarding the current state of the party.

He said there were many differences of opinion at present.”Having different opinions is fine according to Islam. However, there must be a point where people can agree.

Don’t just make your own way,” he said.Zahid said much of the disagreement was tainted with emotion.”Please reduce the emotion and increase the factual content that you put forward in your arguments,” he said.

Zahid said the notion that Umno was “falling apart” was misconceived. The misconception came about because big names, like former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamed, were attacking the party leadership.

He said Dr Mahathir should respect the current leaders and office-holders.”When he was PM, he didn’t like people making comments about him,” Zahid said.Zahid said calls made by people like Pahang’s Paya Besar Umno division chief Ahmad Tajudin Sulaiman, who said that the entire supreme council should resign, did not make sense.”That’s a personal opinion.

He’s probably frustrated that he wasn’t chosen to contest in Paya Besar,” he said.”Asking people to resign won’t solve the problem,” Zahid said.
