THE STAR : Wednesday February 4, 2009

THE SMK Pusat Bandar Puchong students performed a dragon and lion dance in conjunction with the Chinese New Year.

The event was officiated by Lim Seng Hou, who is private secretary to Deputy Education Minister Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong.

The school Parent-Teacher Asso-ciation (PTA) chairman Lokman Hamidi, in his welcoming speech, requested for the ministry to look into the construction of a hall for the school.

“School assemblies are cancelled every time it rains, since we have no hall.
“Our current enrolment is 2,409 students,” he said.

Lim commended the school for putting together the lively lion dance with music from the kompang group.

School principal Siti Rogahyah Yahya said the dragon team comprised 14 members, while the lion dance troupe was made up of 16 members, four of whom were Malays, six Indians and the rest Chinese.

Teacher-in-charge Chia Lee Peng said the teams only started training in December.
“We still need help from parents and also the public to help in donating equipment to enable the students to train even harder.

“At the same time, I hope that more students will join our troupe,” said Chia.
